Woman struck, killed by city vehicle in Berkeley

A 70-year-old woman died Friday after a city of Berkeley employee driving a city-owned vehicle hit her at a crosswalk, the California Highway Patrol said. The woman was crossing the street at the intersection of Channing Way and Fulton Street around 1:20 p.m. when she was struck, CHP spokesman Matthew Hamer said. The woman was pronounced dead 10 minutes later. The driver stayed at the scene and was cooperating with investigators.
