Sucampo Pharmaceuticals closes on its $1.2B sale to a U.K. company

Rockville-based Sucampo Pharmaceuticals Inc. has officially been sold to U.K. pharmaceutical giant Mallinckrodt PLC. The $1.2 billion deal, including debt, closed Tuesday after more than 50 percent of Sucampo's (NASDAQ: SCMP) shares were tendered in favor of the deal by 8 a.m. That satisfied the minimum requirements for the purchase to be consummated, so it didn't need to move to a stockholder vote.
