Notice anything unusual in uptown Charlotte today? If you saw people in 18th-century clothing, or heard the pop of musket shots, that was the May 20th Society commemorating Meck Dec Day. The nonprofit re-enacts the signing of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence on May 20, 1775 — more than a year before the nation's leaders signed the Declaration of Independence, according to local lore. Check out scenes from the event in the accompanying photo gallery.
