The Port of Jacksonville has served a central role in getting relief supplies to Puerto Rico after the island of 3.4 million was hit by Category 4 Hurricane Maria. The port is responsible for more than 85 percent of U.S. trade to the island, according to Jaxport spokesperson Nancy Rubin. Jaxport tenants Crowley Maritime, Tote Maritime and Trailer Bridge all ship to Puerto Rico. The Federal Emergency Management Agency used the port as a launching point for many of its relief supplies.
