In October 2017, the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens announced its next 10-year master plan for zoo development. Since then, the zoo has debuted a massive exhibit, invited the traveling Dinosauria exhibit to stay throughout the summer and is embarking on other projects. The $9 million overhaul of the previous Great Apes loop at the zoo reopened as the wellness-inspired African Forest in September.
