Low-cost airline Spirit coming to CLT, starting with routes to 4 cities

Spirit Airlines disclosed plans Tuesday to begin flying at Charlotte Douglas International Airport this summer. The low-cost carrier will offer service to four cities beginning June 20. The airline is based near Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and is publicly traded. At CLT, Spirit will have one gate, said John Kirby, the airline’s vice president of network planning. “We’re always looking at opportunities, and Charlotte has been something we’ve really been hoping to put together for a long time,”...
